All products are created with a mixture of old-time hand craftsmanship and advanced manufacturing technology. Although we use advanced computer-controlled equipment, we have refused to adopt mass-production techniques. Among other things, we continue to employ traditional mortise and tenon joinery because of the beauty and long-lasting strength they add to our products.
We work primarily with sustainably harvested pattern grade mahogany but can also use other hardwoods or reclaimed lumber if desired. Our products are built using traditional mortise and tenon joinery with American and European hardware in bronze, brass, stainless steel and other materials selected for their beauty and durability. Our Kalamein (copper clad) windows are highly regarded as the resurrection of a lost art.
In addition to our custom windows and doors, J.S. Benson enjoys constructing nearly any architectural feature involving wood, stone, glass and metals. Over the years, we’ve collected a vast working knowledge of classical and modern styles to competently guide our computerized design and precision woodworking capabilities to create everything from curved glass sliding doors with stone sills to complete architectural facades as well as interior cabinetry, stairs, furniture and millwork.
